Sabian Radia: A Legacy of Innovative Drumming

As a renowned drummer, I've had the privilege of exploring various drumming styles and techniques throughout my career. One of the most significant milestones in my journey was the discovery of Sabian Radia cymbals, which have become an integral part of my playing style.

In the early days, I started with standard drumheads and steel rims, but it wasn't until I found Attack-Universal Percussion that I was able to experiment with TB signature Mylar drumheads crimped onto steel rims. This setup allowed me to achieve a unique sound that has become synonymous with my playing style.

Over the years, I've had the opportunity to work with some incredible musicians and bands, including UK and Missing persons. During this time, I began stacking cymbals, which became a defining characteristic of my drumming approach. The combination of different cymbal sizes and configurations allowed me to create a distinctive sound that has been praised by fans and critics alike.

My fascination with design and innovation led me to explore the works of iconic architects and designers such as Le Corbusier, Eileen Grey, Breuer, Mies Van der Rohe, Oskar Schlemmer, Rietveld, Loos, Schindler, Neutra, Hoffman, Frank Lloyd Wright, Gaudi, Charles Rennie Macintosh, and Eames. These visionaries inspired me to think outside the box and push the boundaries of what was possible in drumming.

In 1983, I took my passion for innovation to the next level by designing and building my own electronic drum kit, which earned me three patents. This project allowed me to combine my love of music with my interest in design, resulting in a truly unique product that has had a lasting impact on the drumming community.

As I look back on my journey, it's clear that Sabian Radia cymbals have played a significant role in shaping my sound and style. The Radia ride cymbal, in particular, is a testament to Sabian's commitment to innovation and excellence. With its distinctive design and tone, it's an integral part of my setup and a key element in my drumming philosophy.
